Now, I must have been behind the times because the only time I caught a Yetis concert, they were on the brink of breaking up, and Steven wasn't playing that night. Some friends, who shall remain anonymous, had all told me that they thought he was completely adorable, and were pretty smitten with him. I'm sure I would have been too, if I had known him. Fast forward to 2006. Monike and I were back home from college for the summer, and Melissa invited us out to her college church group. I may or may not have been a little excited to hear that Steven might come also. Weeks went by and he didn't show. I was slightly bummed, but then again, I hadn't even met him. He finally decided to come, on the one day I chose to wear a T-shirt and jeans. Boy, was he cute. I played it cool when Melissa introduced us. I shook his hand, said hello, and quickly excused myself.

Weeks went by, and Tuesday quickly became my favorite night of the week. Monike and I would chat casually with Steven, Monike doing most of the talking. This led to hanging out casually with Steven outside of the church group. Then Monike had to go back to Baylor. I was worried that it meant that Steven and I wouldn't be hanging out anymore. Luckily, I was wrong.

Side note: One Tuesday at church, Monike and I were chatting with Steven. Well, the conversation turned to Nicole Kidmann, and Steven hit his head on the table gushing about her. He had played it pretty cool before that, but in that moment I knew he was a just big dork. Consequently, we can no longer watch Nicole Kidmann movies. Kidding, well, kind of.

Steven and I hung out a few times before I had to head back to A&M. We watched movies at my house, mostly. My dad of course, had already jokingly threatened Steven when he first met him, "Blah, blah, blah, you hurt my daughter, blah, blah, blah." And luckily for Steven, my brother was mostly confined to the recliner in the living room. He had been in a car accident earlier in the summer. Had he not, he probably would have played the macho big brother card. Steven slipped in without him completely noticing, and by the time he came around, it was more of a , "Crap, you're still here!?"

We had our first date on September 24. He picked me up, and we drove to what we refer to now, as "our side of town." On the drive there, he handed me a brown paper bag. It contained the ugliest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Three shell dogs, having tea on a shell table complete with excess hot glue oozing off everything. He had gone on a school trip, and decided to buy me the, "tackiest thing ever." We laughed about it, and what seemed like seconds later, we arrived at the Houston Center for Photography. We walked around talking and laughing, having a good time. I don't remember what exhibit was in the main room at the time, but there was a small collection of polaroids in the back.

Next, we walked over to the Menil. We wandered around for a while, and I was getting antsy, wanting him to hold my hand. Finally, I decided that it was taking too long, so I 'linked' arms with him. Feeling stupid, I decided to let go. When I did, he grabbed my hand. They have been super glued together, ever since.
